Leaders of securities firms, regulatory groups and the capital markets will headline the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Launch to be held at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida, Wednesday, November 8, through Friday, November 10.

This is the first formal meeting of the newly created association, which is the result of a merger between the Securities Industry Association (SIA) and The Bond Market Association (TBMA). This meeting will launch the new SIFMA look, the new board of directors and officers, and the organization’s new agenda. Furthermore, this event provides opportunities to meet and hear senior regulators, industry leaders, and industry participants as they address new strategies, initiatives, issues, and opportunities that will affect the industry in the coming year.

“This meeting will not only explore SIFMA’s role in the industry, but also the ways in which the industry as a whole is changing and the best ways to address those changes,” said Ed Forst, SIFMA’s 2006 Co-Chairman. “We are eager to bring our members together to discuss important industry issues and benefit from the perspective of industry leaders in both debt and equity markets.”

“The creation of SIFMA demonstrates our commitment to better representing our member firms, and helping to ensure that the securities industry and the financial markets grow and prosper,” said James Gorman, SIFMA’s 2006 Co-Chairman. “A growing industry demands stronger representation and it was with this philosophy that SIFMA was born.”

SIFMA’s first formal meeting begins with Wednesday evening’s welcome dinner (November 8). There, SIA’s Distinguished Leadership Awards and TBMA’s Chairmen’s Achievement Awards will be presented to individuals that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service to the industry. Additionally, SIFMA’s Diversity Leadership Awards will be announced during the meeting.

Gorman and Forst as well as SIFMA’s Co-CEOs, Marc Lackritz and Micah Green, will begin the general session of the meeting on Thursday morning (November 9). Other speakers at the event include:

  • Mary Schapiro, Chairman and CEO, NASD

  • Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan
