SIFMA’s Municipal Securities Division will honor David Brownstein, managing director and co-head of the Public Finance Department in the Municipal Securities Division at Citi, with its 2012 Honor Roll Award at a luncheon today in New York City.
Mr. Brownstein is being recognized for his outstanding service to the municipal securities industry. He was instrumental in the industry’s work with regulators during his tenure as chair of the SIFMA Municipal Securities Division, which spanned the financial crisis. He remains very engaged with the industry and with efforts to promote a sound municipal bond market.
“We are delighted to honor David with this award,” said Kenneth Gibbs, president of the Municipal Securities Group at Jefferies & Company, Inc. and 2012 chair of SIFMA’s Municipal Securities Division. “He has shown leadership to the industry both through and outside of his work with SIFMA and we are pleased to recognize his many contributions.”
At Citi, Mr. Brownstein has direct responsibility for credit facilities, direct lending products, forward commitments and tender offers. He started his career in public finance in 1983 focused on governmental entities in Michigan and the southwest. Since that time, he has served as senior manager or financial advisor to over 200 municipal issuers, higher education institutions and healthcare providers throughout the nation. He also works closely with some of Citi’s corporate strategic partners on development of new methods to provide efficiencies to Citi’s client base.
Mr. Brownstein served as past Chair of the Municipal Executive Committee of SIFMA. He has been a guest speaker and lecturer at numerous industry conferences on municipal credit.
Mr. Brownstein serves on the board of El Faro de los Animales, a no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary in Puerto Rico. He spends his free time shuttling dogs and cats from the shelter for placement in forever homes in New York.
Mr. Brownstein received his Bachelors degree in Classics from Beloit College in 1980.
