The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation for Investor Education (SIFMA Foundation) today announced the appointment of Melanie Mortimer as Executive Director. Ms. Mortimer joins the SIFMA Foundation from Merrill Lynch & Co., where she served as Director of Global Philanthropy for 10 years, with experience in various investor education and financial literacy initiatives.
“I’m extremely pleased to announce that Melanie is joining the Foundation,” said SIFMA Foundation Co-Chair Michael D. McCarthy, of VMAC LLC. “Melanie has a wealth of experience furthering the goals of a variety of highly visible, philanthropic endeavors across the globe. This broad range of expertise, including in-depth exposure to the cause of financial literacy, will be vital to the continued growth and success of the SIFMA Foundation.”
SIFMA Foundation Co-Chair Donna C. Peterman, of PNC Financial Services said, “We are confident that Melanie will continue to build on the excellent leadership provided by interim Executive Director Robert Foran, whom we wish to thank for his generous service. Looking forward, we share with Melanie the goal of expanding learning opportunities through the many resources currently provided by the SIFMA Foundation.”

In her most recent position as Director of Global Philanthropy at Merrill Lynch, Ms. Mortimer created and managed award-winning global signature programs that combined employee involvement, grants to nonprofit organizations, and innovative, cross-sector partnerships. The range of initiatives under her direction included programs in financial literacy, youth leadership, and entrepreneurship. Several of the programs were coordinated on a global basis, including a financial literacy initiative that impacted 3 million youth in 70 countries.
Ms. Mortimer holds a B.A. from Agnes Scott College and an M.B.A. from Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo.
