Standard & Poor’s will make the following changes in the S&P Europe 350, S&P Euro Plus and S&P Euro indices, effective after the close of trading on Thursday, 29 January 2009:

• Banco Santander SA (Spain, SEDOL: 5705946, GICS: Financials, GICS Code: 40101010), a member of the S&P Europe 350, S&P Euro Plus and S&P Euro indices, shares will change to 8,171,466,715 following an increase of capital to fund the acquisition of Sovereign Bankcorp Inc.
