On June 8, 2018, when the Board Meeting and the Capital Market Development Summit of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) was held in Shanghai, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) held a ceremony for the signing of the cooperation agreement and officially launched the Green Bond Channel, which has offered a new model for the cross-border green finance cooperation in the capital market. Wu Qing, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai and Chairman of WFE, attended the ceremony.
The SSE and the LuxSE are both leading stock exchanges that advocate sustainable development. The SSE Green Bond Index has been shown on the LuxSE simultaneously since June 2017, marking a good start for the two sides' cooperation in green finance. The Green Bond Channel will further demonstrate the detailed information of the SSE green bonds at the official website of the LuxSE and its other information platforms like Luxembourg Green Exchange (LGX). This move will provide international investors with an efficient and transparent channel to obtain relevant information, bring convenience for them to allocate high-quality RMB green assets, and further guide international capital to flow toward the green industry.
Those first included in the Channel are 18 green corporate bonds publicly issued and listed on the SSE, with the total amount of RMB23.1 billion. The issuers include China Three Gorges Corporation, China Huadian Corporation, Huaneng Renewables Corporation, Beijing Enterprises Water Group, CECEP Wind-power Corporation, Longyuan Power Group and other superior enterprises.
SSE President Jiang Feng said in his speech that China and Luxembourg have a long-standing friendship. The official launch of the Green Bond Channel has boosted their cooperation in green finance, which walks in forefront of the development of global green finance and conforms to the sincere hope of jointly promoting green development and high-quality cooperation of the two countries.
LuxSE CEO Robert Scharfe pointed out that by offering a convenient way to demonstrate the green bond information and communicate with central European market, the Channel will increase international investors' attention to China's green bond market and thus attract more diversified potential investors.
Later, the SSE will continue to implement the guidelines of the China Securities Regulatory Commission on supporting exchanges to actively participate in the international exchange and cooperation in green finance, and steadily promote various tasks in the "SSE Vision and Action Plan (2018-2020) for Supporting Green Development and Promoting Green Finance", thus offering continuous capital impetuses for the green development and the green financial system construction of China.
