SGX Group (Singapore Exchange) and the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) have signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) to deepen capital markets access and connectivity between Singapore and the Philippines.
Signed on the sidelines of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF), the collaboration will explore more seamless pathways for issuers to access capital across both markets, while giving investors more investment and trading opportunities to each market through a broader range of products. Such opportunities include ETFs built around investment themes common to both markets, derivatives and closer engagement with market participants to support these initiatives. SGX Group and PSE will work with regulators and other market participants to address the regulatory and operational considerations needed to support these initiatives.
This MOC marks the most comprehensive collaboration to date between SGX and PSE. It comes as their respective regulators, in their successive chairmanship of the ACMF, seek to strengthen connections among Southeast Asia’s capital markets and expand the avenues for investors to participate in the region’s growth. SGX and PSE have collaborated over the years to provide investors a means to manage their Philippines market exposure through index derivatives.
Loh Boon Chye, CEO, SGX Group, said: “ASEAN’s growth story is increasingly attracting the attention of investors around the world. Closer links between our markets can make that opportunity more accessible, while giving companies more avenues to reach capital and investors across the region. Our collaboration with PSE takes a practical approach to building those connections, from market access to new investment products that can bring our markets closer together.”
Ramon S. Monzon, PSE President and CEO, said: “This collaboration with SGX Group marks a significant step toward strengthening connectivity between the Philippine and Singapore capital markets and expanding opportunities for both issuers and investors. By exploring new investment products, enhancing market access and fostering closer engagement among market participants, we aim to broaden investment choices, attract greater investor participation and deepen market liquidity.”
