SFE Experiences Market Disruption

Date 14/07/2000

The Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE) today experienced three disruptions to its markets.

The Sydney market was unavailable for a total of 194 minutes during the period of 11.10am to 3.30pm.

The first two disruptions were caused by the loss of the primary and secondary communications links to the SYCOM® trading system. The third market halt arose from the primary and secondary databases becoming out of synchronisation as a result of the earlier losses of the communications links.

13 trades were cancelled as a result of these problems.

Aware of its obligation to provide an orderly market, SFE informed its Members of the disruptions and kept the market closed until the problems were rectified. All trading participants were effected equally.

A full investigation into these market disruptions is being undertaken.
