Today, the Czech Republic’s auctioneer for the common EU platform (OTE, a.s.) has been admitted to European Energy Exchange (EEX). This means that the admission process for all 24 EU Member States participating in the transitional common auction platform has now been completed.

In addition to the 24 EU Member States that have decided to use the common auction platform, Poland and the EEA-EFTA States Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have confirmed their intention to have their share in the emission allowances auctioned off on the transitional common platform as well. These countries are in the process of preparing for participation in the auctions. However, the time at which these countries will be admitted has not been announced yet.
NER Auctions for EUA of the Second Trading Period
EEX will also carry out further auctions of EUAs from New Entrants’ Reserve (NER) of the second trading period of the EU ETS (2008-2012) on behalf of the Czech Republic and the region of Flanders until the end of March.
Upon consultation with the Czech Ministry of the Environment, EEX will conduct the second and last NER auction for the Czech Republic on 20 March 2013. The volume to be auctioned comprises 1,568,500 EUAs. In October 2012, already 1 million EUAs from the Czech New Entrants’ Reserve were sold through the EEX Spot Market.
Upon consultation with the Flemish auctioneer (DAB veiling emissierechten), the volume for the fourth and last NER auction for the region of Flanders on 19 March was determined at 3,565,000 EUA. In addition, on 5 March and 12 March 2 million EUAs
each will be auctioned.
Trading participants will have the opportunity to submit bids for the NER auctions on the EEX Spot Market from 1 to 3 pm CET.
