SET: mai Listed Firms Report Upbeat Q3 Earnings, Up 35%

Companies listed on Market for Alternative Investment (mai), reported sales of THB 34.38 billion (approx. USD 982 million) in Q3/2016, a 8.13 percent increase from a year earlier, and their net profit growth also grew 34.51 percent to THB 1.95 billion.

mai President Prapan Charoenprawatt said that the aggregate amount was from the 128 mai-listed companies of the total 132 firms, excluding those in the non-compliance list and those not submitting the report in time.  Among these 132 firms, 86 firms, or 67 percent, reported net profits.

“Seven out of eight industry groups reported positive sales growth in Q3/2016 compared to the same period last year, corresponding to recovered domestic consumption demand. Overall, the firms’ ability to manage cost and expenses helped boost gross profit margin up at 24.51 percent from 24.29 percent a year earlier, and push net profit margin up at 5.68 percent from 4.57 percent a year earlier,” added Prapan.

There were four industry groups that reported growth in both total sales and net profits in Q3/2016, compared to the same period last year, which were Financials, Services, Industrials, and Consumer Products, respectively.  However, mai listed companies' debt to equity ratio at the end of Q3 increased slightly to 1.10 from 0.99 times from end-Q3/2015 due to rising investment.

The top five profit-making mai listed companies in the third quarter were Energy Absolute pcl (EA) making THB 718 million net profit, Brooker Group pcl (BROOK) posting THB 281 million, Forth Smart Service pcl (FSMART) reporting THB 104 million net profit, Thai Solar Energy pcl (TSE) making THB 104 million, and Arrow Syndicate pcl (ARROW) reporting THB 70 million net profit.

From January to September, their net profits were worth a combined THB 6.14 billion, a 2.05 percent rise from the same period last year, and their nine-month sales rose to THB 100.58 billion, a 2.82 percent increase from a year earlier.

As at November 21, 2016, there were 132 mai-listed firms. The mai index closed at 577.51 point, up 10.50 percent from the beginning of this year, with a total market capitalization of 381.10 billion (USD 10.89 billion) and daily average trading value of THB 2.18 billion.  The price-to-earnings ratio (P/E ratio) was 58.38 times.
