The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 3.00% in September, closing at 13759.06. Stock market indexes in Europe, Asia and globally were up in September, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 3.00% in September, closing at 13759.06. Year-to-date, the index is up 10.40%. (Index calculated in US dollars)

  • Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 50 Index is up 1.44% for September, closing at 3819.93. Year-to-date, the index is up 3.32%. (Index calculated in Euros)

  • Measuring Eastern Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged Total Market Index is up 1.37% for September, closing at 375.20. Year-to-date, the index is up 19.83%. (Index calculated in Euros) The performance of the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged 15 blue-chip index is up 2.08% for September, closing at 3712.52. Year-to-date, the index is up 16.64%.   • The Dow Jones Asian Titans 50 Index rose 1.72% in September to 174.66. So far this year, the index is up 6.22%. (Index calculated in US dollars)

SEPTEMBER 2007 Sector Winners and Losers

  • In the U.S., the Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index was the biggest winner in September, posting a 8.20% gain. The Dow Jones Consumer Services sector index posted the narrowest gain, 0.01%.

  • In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 10.12%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Travel & Leisure sector index posted the biggest loss, falling 5.97%.

  • In Asia, the Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 14.38%. The Dow Jones Technology sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 2.94%.

  • Globally, the Dow Jones Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 14.86% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes. The Dow Jones Construction & Materials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 1.37%.

Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index

  • Measuring the global commodities futures market, the Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index is up 7.41% for September, closing at 177.84. Year-to-date, the index is up 6.80%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
