Securities Commission Malaysia (SC)’s InvestSmart® Fest 2017 held from 13-15 October attracted close to 20,000 visitors. The annual event which aims to enhance financial and investment literacy amongst Malaysia was officiated by Yang Berhormat Brigadier General Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister for Youth and Sports. Then three-day event ended on a high note with the inaugural ScamBuster Run which drew participation of 3,000 people. The charity fun run, held to enhance investors’ awareness on scams, successfully raised RM100,000 for the National Kidney Foundation.
At the ScamBuster Run recently, SC also announced the appointment of Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the ambassador of InvestSmart®.
“I am very honoured to be named as the Ambassador of InvestSmart and will continue to support and help Malaysians to be more financially and investment literate as well as increase their awareness on scams and illegal investment schemes,” she said.
SC Chairman, Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh said, “Malaysians need to equip themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage their financial resources and grow their wealth. SC’s InvestSmart® initiatives are designed to empower individuals to make informed financial and investment decisions. After all, an educated investor is a protected investor.”
SC is also co-chairing the Financial Education Network to develop Malaysia’s Strategic Priorities for Financial Literacy. The report is expected to be issued by the first quarter of next year.
The three-day InvestSmart® Fest 2017 showcased over 65 exhibitors including capital market institutions, associations, industry players and relevant government agencies under one roof. Visitors also benefitted from 450 free financial planning sessions held by 65 financial planners licensed by the SC and a variety of talks and seminars on investments, market outlook and digitisation. Celebrities Harith Iskander and Elizabeth Tan also made an appearance at InvestSmart® Fest 2017 to share their investment experience with visitors.
