Securities & Investment Institute (SII) Presence In China: Official Opening Of Shanghai Office By City Of London Lord Mayor

Date 18/10/2007

The City of London Lord Mayor, Alderman John Stuttard, will officially open the Securities & Investment Institute (SII) office in the Pudong area of Shanghai on 19 October 2007.

With its Country Manager, Rachel Zhu and her team in place, the SII is now able to offer its qualifications through its training partners in China.

China’s regulator, the China Securities and Regulatory Commission (CSRC), has been fully briefed since 2005 on SII’s intentions to offer its qualifications in China.

The SII’s own suite of examinations will be complementary and build on those provided by the Securities Association of China, with the added advantage of providing an international and portable qualification. The SII welcomes the SAC “principles”, or rules and regulations, exam as one of two modules required to obtain the qualifications. The SII module will be the global, technical model, thereby resulting in a globally portable, benchmark qualification.

The SII is offering a full suite of qualifications, which cover both advisory and operational roles, with particular emphasis on:
  • Certificates in Securities
  • Certificates in Derivatives
  • Certificates in Investment Management
  • International Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ)
  • Advanced Certificate in Operational Risk

These SII qualifications are internationally generic, rather than oriented to British practice. Some qualifications, and workbooks, will be offered in both the English and Chinese languages.

Simon Culhane, Chief Executive of SII said, “We are delighted to be able to offer our international qualifications in China. The knowledge gained and the portability of this qualification will become increasingly important for China and the Chinese market practitioners as the Chinese securities market expands.

“All successful candidates will automatically become SII members and thereby sign up to our Code of Conduct, which will demonstrate their commitment to promoting investor trust and confidence in the market.”

SII is working with a range of training institutions, including universities and commercial training companies, which will offer training to candidates in China in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

SII examinations will be delivered by its standard methodology of multiple choice questions delivered on dedicated PCs in examination halls across China.
