Date 06/05/2009

The SII (Securities & Investment Institute) is pleased to announce that, at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) today, members present voted unanimously to apply for a Royal Charter.

Two thirds of those voting expressed a preference for the name of the “Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment” as the name to go forward and the board has authorised the Chairman to submit this name to the Privy Council.

Scott Dobbie FSI, SII Chairman said “The SII has been dedicated to professionalism since it emerged from the London Stock Exchange almost 20 years ago and has remained true to its proud heritage of leading in both education and integrity, building on the individual integrity of members who abided by the motto of  ‘my word is my bond’.

“I am delighted that we are ready to take this next step forward and make an application to the Sovereign to be granted a Royal Charter.”

Simon Culhane FSI, SII CEO said ‘The SII enjoys a strong reputation, particularly for Integrity and the quality of its development programmes.  The positive vote by the members to apply for a Royal Charter is a strong vote of confidence in the Institute to join this prestigious group.

“I am particularly pleased that members are keen not only for the Institute to apply for a Charter but also for individuals to become personally chartered, which for those who achieve this status, will be a public demonstration that they have met the highest standards of probity and integrity”
