Over the week of February 2 – February 6, 2009, the RTS Index went down by 2,64% to reach 520,91 points (535,04 points as of January 30, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 10,23 points), Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 4,89 points) and Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 3,99 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 shed 0,91% to reach 433,88 points (437,86 points as of January 30, 2009). Last week almost all the economy sectors represented on the Russian Stock Market closed in the negative territory. The major loser was the financials sector; the corresponding index shrank by 4,32%. Significant decline was registered in the oil & gas sector, with the corresponding index losing 3,60%. The metals & mining sector performed better than the market. The RTSI – Metals & Mining gained 11,56%.

Rouble devaluation, which has seen the currency fall 4,68% against the US dollar over the week, was one of the critical drivers behind the negative indices dynamics.
The total trading volume on RTS for the week February 2 – 6, 2009 equaled 1,9 bln. dollars (69,1 bln. roubles*), including all types of trades.
The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) – $20,730 mln., followed by OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" ordinary shares (GMKN) - $2,437 mln. and OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) - $1,953 mln. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 56,86%, 6,68% and 5,36% respectively.
The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of Mechel ОАО (MTLR) – by 40,74% to $3,8, ordinary shares of JSC "Severstal" (CHMF) – by 33,59% to $3,5, and ordinary shares of OJSC "Polyus Gold" (PLZl) – by 26,69% to $33,7.
The week's top losers were ordinary shares of OJSC Uralkali (URKA), that fell in price by 23,5% to reach $0,96394, ordinary shares of OJSC LSR Group (LSRG) that closed 15,64% down at $3,096 per share and ordinary shares of IDGC of Center and Volga Region, JSC (MRKP) that posted 11,54% loss at $0,0023.
