Over the week of February 16 – 20, 2009 the RTS Index went down by 17.14% to reach 517.22 points (624.21 points as of February 13, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 21.08 points) and Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 14.58 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 shed 2.54% to reach 436.66 points (448.06 points as of February 13, 2009). Last week all the economy sectors represented on the Russian Stock Market closed in the negative territory. The major loser was the oil & gas sector; the corresponding index shrank by 17.55%. Significant decline was registered in the metals & mining sector, with the corresponding index losing 13.46%. The power sector performed better than the market. The RTSI – Electric Utilities decreased by 5.30%.

The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) – $14.334 mln., followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) - $2.437 mln. and ordinary shares of OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" (GMKN) - $2.007 mln. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 49.88%, 9.91% and 6.98% respectively.
The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of JSC "WGC-3" (OGKC) – by 11.54% to $0.0087, ordinary shares of JSC "Polymetal" (PMTL) – by 11.11% to $6.0, and privileged shares of OJSC N. W. Telecom (SPTLP) – by 9.68% to $0.17.
The week's top losers were ordinary shares of Mechel ОАО (MTLR), that fell in price by 37.93% to reach $3.6, Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) that closed 29.08% down at $0.3865 per share and ordinary shares of OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" (GMKN) that posted 28.69% loss at $43.5.
