In September 2008 the RTS Index slipped down by 26,38% to 1211,84 points as of September 30th, 2008 against 1646,14 points as of August 31st, 2008.
Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was coming from falling prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 60,90 points), LUKOIL ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 50,13 points), Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 44,74 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 went down by 26,34% to reach 1375,18 points (1867,00 points as of the end of August, 2008). All the key sectors, represented on the Russian stock market, showed a negative trend. The major negative contributor was the power sector, the corresponding Sectoral Index shed 37,54%. The smallest nonetheless considerable decline was accounted for by the consumer & retail sector with the RTS Index – Consumer & Retail shedding 21,06%.

In September 2008 the trading volume on RTS equaled 31,4 billion dollars (793,3 billion rubles*), including all types of trades.
The top sellers of the month on the RTS Stock market were Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) – $153,5 mln., Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) - $102,5 mln., followed by OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" ordinary shares (GMKN) – $70,5 mln. The share of the above securities in the turnover made up 25,85%, 17,27% and 11,88% respectively.
The top gainers of the month were Kirovsky Zavod ordinary shares (KIRZ) that experienced a 16,28% growth to close at $50,00, priviledged shares of Novosibirskenergo (NVNGP) that went up by 6,92% to reach $53,46 and OMZ ordinary shares (OMZZ) that gained 5,63% to end up at $7,13.
The top losers of the month were ordinary shares of PIK Group (PIKK) that fell in price by 71,32% to reach $5,45, ordinary shares of JSC "TGK-6" (TGKF) that went down by 69,23% to reach $0,0002 and ordinary shares of PJSC "NUTRINVESTHOLDING", (NTRI) that were down by 65,85% to $7,00. In June a considerable trading volume in bonds was registered. The top sellers of the month were LLC "FinanceBusinessGroup" (FBGR02) bonds, whose trading volume stood at $61,2 mln.
