In May 2009 the RTS Index went up by 30.58% to 1087.59 points as of May 29, 2009 against 832.87 points as of April 30, 2009. Most of the positive impact on the RTS Index dynamics was coming from growing prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (plus 59.81points), Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (plus 33.08 points) and ordinary shares of OJSC "OC "Rosneft" (ROSN) (plus 23.99 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 increased by 34.84% to reach 857.80 points (636.18 points as of April 30, 2009). All the key sectors represented on the Russian stock market showed a positive trend. The major positive contributor was the finanical sector, with the corresponding index going up by 47.98%. The industrial sector reported a significant gain – 42.71%. The slightest growth was registered in the telecom sector, with the RTS Index – Telecom increasing by 14.39%.

In May the US dollar lost 5.78% against the rouble to 31.33 roubles per US dollar (33.25 as of April 30, 2009).
In May 2009 the trading volume on RTS equaled 25.1 billion dollars (799.0 billion roubles*), including all types of trades. Trading volume of securities, admitted to trading on RTS Standard, totaled last month USD 2.0 billion.
The top sellers of the month on the RTS Stock Market were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with monthly turnover $938.5 million, Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with turnover of $710.7 million followed by ??? "LUKOIL"(LKOH) ordinary shares – $171.8 million. These shares accounted for 39,59%, 29,98% and 7,25% respectively of total turnover.
The top gainers of the month on the RTS Stock Market were ordinary shares of JSC "?hTRP" (CHEP) which experienced a 250.88% growth to reach $2.0, OJSC "TGC-9" ordinary shares (TGKI) that went up 200.0% to reach $0,00009 and ordinary shares of GAZ (GAZA) that gained 100.0% to end up at $20.0 per share.
The top losers of the month were ordinary shares of OJSC "Rostelecom" which fell in price by 33.70% to reach $6.1; ordinary shares of PIK Group (PIKK) which fell by 8.43% to reach $1.63 and ordinary shares of JSC "Magadanenergo" which shed 4.55% to $0.021.
