ROFEX: More Than 6,000 Million Dollars Traded In April - Financial Futures Increased 79% In A Year

ROFEX registered a new historical monthly volume record, fostered by strong dollar futures trading. Likewise, daily volume and Open Interest records in the Financial Derivatives Division (DDF) were surpassed several times.

In April, dollar futures experienced a fantastic performance. ROFEX surpassed the monthly trading volume record, reaching a total of 6,060,408 contracts in its Financial Derivatives Division, doubling the previous maximum reached in October 2007, when 3 million contracts were traded.

Total accumulated volume between January and April 2008 was up 102% from the same period last year, positioning this year’s first four months within the ranking of the 10 record marks in ROFEX´s history. The slight volatility increase experienced by the exchange rate shot up coverage and arbitrage traded volume, showing a 123% increase from March and up 400% from the volume traded in April 2007, when the trading level reached 1,2 million contracts.

Likewise, the Open Interest average increased throughout the month, surpassing the historical mark in several occasions and reaching a record of 1,535,876 million open contracts at the close of last April 28 trading session.

On the other hand, on April 22 trading session, the daily volume historical record was surpassed, reaching a total of 554,422 contracts and surpassing by 16% the previous record reached on April 17.

The purpose of futures and options exchanges is to provide coverage instruments before price variations. It is worth remembering that ROFEX is the only futures and options exchange in the country in which financial products can be traded.
