R.J. O’Brien Expands Metals Division With Appointment Of David Maynard

Date 26/01/2011

R.J. O’Brien & Associates (RJO), the largest independent futures brokerage firm in the United States, today announced the expansion of its global Metals division with the appointment of David Maynard as Vice President, Global Metals Group.  Maynard reports to Janet Mirasola, Managing Director, Metals, who joined the firm‘s New York office last February.  Mirasola is widely known for her sophisticated daily analysis of the global metals markets that has attracted a loyal following.

Maynard, a 20-year veteran of the metals and mining industry, joined RJO from Ebullio Capital Management, a commodity hedge fund, where he was in charge of U.S. Investor Relations.

He began his career in South Africa with Anglovaal Gold Mining Co., then became a copper arbitrage trader for Brody White (UK) Ltd.  He later worked as a ring dealer on the London Metal Exchange (LME), specializing in base metals trading, and subsequently joined Lehman Brothers.  He relocated to California, where he worked in commodities – primarily LME metals – setting up two trading desks and running a technical trading software company.  Since then, he has worked within the investment community with a focus on metals, commodities and hedge funds.

Mirasola said: “David’s background in mining and metals and experience with the larger investment community make him a valuable addition to our team. We’ve made great strides in the past year in bringing new metals business to RJO and providing terrific risk management and trading opportunities to our clients.”

Maynard attended London’s Royal School of Mines at Imperial College, where he graduated with honors in Mining Engineering.
