Record Trading Day For Green Exchange As Daily Volume Surpasses 5,000 Contracts And Open Interest Reaches New High

End of day volume in Green Exchange products traded on NYMEX for the first time surpassed 5,000 contracts yesterday, registering a new daily record of 5,290 contracts traded. (1)  This milestone is more than double the previous Green Exchange product  daily volume record of 2,630 contracts traded last Tuesday, August 17. (1)    Yesterday’s trading volume for EUAs and CERs was transacted on the Globex® electronic trading system and through the ClearPort clearing facility.

Exchange-wide open interest has increased by 166% to 28,663 contracts (1) since January 04, 2010 when the Green Exchange products traded on NYMEX recorded total open interest of 10,762 contracts.   The open interest breakdown per contract is set out below.

The Green Exchange environmental suite of futures and options contracts traded on NYMEX is currently eligible for a fee holiday (trading and clearing fees) until August 31, 2010. (2)
