On behalf of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), let me congratulate ISDA on four decades of excellence in promoting best risk management practices in global finance. Hong Kong truly provides a premier venue to not only celebrate your achievements of the past, but also crystalise our vision for the future.
As a securities regulator, we welcome the dynamic developments of Hong Kong’s over-the counter (OTC) derivatives market. The city is well-positioned as a key driver of market growth, capital efficiency and risk management across Asia, while seamlessly connecting global and Mainland markets. This presents exciting opportunities for all of you as derivatives traders and market innovators.
Since the SFC introduced the relevant regulatory framework in 2014, Hong Kong’s OTC derivatives market landscape has evolved rapidly. Today, I am very pleased to share with you the growth opportunities the city has to offer. I will discuss: first, the city’s progress in developing the OTC derivatives market; second, its growing nexus with the Mainland; third, recent regulatory developments to ensure sustainable growth going forward.
