Yesterday, the Greek government submitted the Greek proposals, both to the Eurogroup and the Summit of Eurozone leaders, which are a product of yesterday’s Meeting of Political Leaders, as part of our national strategy.
The basic guideline is a socially just and financially sustainable agreement for Greece, as well as for the Eurozone. This framework includes credible reforms that respect social justice. It also includes a commitment to sufficiently cover the financial needs of the country in the medium-term, a strong investment package to address the major problems – mainly unemployment – as well as the commencement of a real discussion on the necessary debt restructuring.
The talks were held in a positive atmosphere. The process will be swift, and will be concluded shortly. We will begin in the coming hours with the goal of finishing by the end of the week, at the latest.
The Greek side will continue their efforts, having the strong support of the Greek people’s verdict, which was clear: the vast majority wants a sustainable agreement that will end, once and for all talk [of a Grexit] to which you referred, and which will offer the prospect of finally exiting the crisis.
I am glad to say that, judging from my colleagues’ positions, everyone understands that we are not simply facing a Greek problem, but a European one that we must all solve together responsibly.
