Prime Minister Of The Hellenic Republic Alexis Tsipras’ Meetings During His Visit To Egypt

1. Meeting with French President François Hollande

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and French President François Hollande held a very cordial meeting on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony for the Suez Canal.

The two leaders agreed that the terms of the July 12th agreement must be observed and that the negotiations can, and must, be concluded immediately after August 15th.

They also discussed the Fund, as provided for in the July 12th agreement, for the most optimal and beneficial utilization of public property. In addition, they agreed to take all necessary actions to enable the Greek economy to recover from the effects of the banking crisis.

2. Meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also had a very cordial meeting.

The two leaders discussed issues regarding economic and maritime cooperation between Suez and Piraeus, as well as with other Greek ports.

The leaders also decided that meetings between officials should commence in order to support Greek business activity in the Suez region. They agreed to organize a tripartite meeting between Cyprus, Greece and Egypt, while maritime boundary delimitation issues were also discussed.

3. Meeting with the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras briefly met with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, on the sidelines of the ceremony to inaugurate the Suez Canal.

At the meeting, the leaders agreed on the President of Palestine visiting Greece in the near future.

4. Meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev

The meeting between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev recently was concluded.

The meeting focused on issues of economic and energy cooperation. The leaders agreed to intensify technical level meetings between the two countries ahead of the 9th Joint Inter-Ministerial Committee, next November.

They also agreed on a telephone meeting between the Greek Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy, Panos Skourletis, and the Russian Energy Minister, Mr. Novak.

Finally, they confirmed their intention to implement, in the immediate future, what has been agreed upon thus far.
