PHLX Continues To Set Records

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity options volume for the month of February 2001 reached 8,586,871 contracts traded, a 101 percent increase over the same month last year when 4,264,438 contracts changed hands. In addition, year-to-date equity options volume reached a record 19,292,666 contracts traded. This represents a 118 percent increase over the first two months of 2000, when 8,846,288 contracts traded.

Equity volume for the month of February 2001 reached 168,211,183 shares traded. In addition, year-to-date equity volume reached 417,402,427 shares. The PHLX currently trades 2,200 equities.

Volume in the PHLX's ten sectors index options during the first two months of 2001 reached a record of 737,049 contracts traded, an increase of 35 percent over the first two months of 2000 when 547,741 contracts traded. PHLX currently lists options on ten sectors: Computer Box Maker Sector, Forest and Paper Sector, Gold/Silver Sector, Oil Service Sector, OTC Prime Sector, PHLX/KBW Bank Sector, The Street.com Internet Sector, Semiconductor Sector, Utility Sector and Wireless Telecom Sector.

Year-to-date volume in the PHLX's customized and standardized currency options reached 73,550 contracts traded.
