PEGAS Volumes Increase 29 % Year-On-Year

PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, announced that a total volume of 70.6 TWh was traded in September 2015, representing a year-on-year increase of 29 % (September 2014: 54.8 TWh).

Spot Markets

Overall spot trading volumes in September totalled 30.2 TWh, which is an increase of 26 % compared to September 2014. The German GASPOOL and NCG areas registered a volume of 11.2 TWh in September, including 3.7 TWh traded in quality-specific gas products. The Dutch TTF recorded a strong monthly volume with 9.5 TWh, up 45 % compared to the previous year. The volume in the French PEG Nord and TRS market areas totalled 8.9 TWh, showing an increase of 27 %. The Belgian ZTP area registered a record month with 561 GWh (previous record: 560 GWh in August 2015).

Derivatives Markets

Trading volumes on the PEGAS derivatives markets reached 40.4 TWh which represents a year-on-year increase of 31 %. The volume traded in the German GASPOOL and NCG market areas amounted to 11.1 TWh, including a record month for GASPOOL with 4.4 TWh (previous record: 4.2 TWh in July 2015). Trading volumes in the French Nord and TRS market areas reached 3.4 TWh. The PSV Physical contracts which were launched on PEGAS on 18 September recorded a volume of 1.2 TWh in the first two weeks of trading. The Dutch TTF futures market contributed 24.6 TWh to the derivatives volume in September. The volume registered for clearing via trade registration amounted to 2.1 TWh.
