PEGAS: April Volume Increases By 81 Percent Year-On-Year - Record Volumes On The Spot Market

PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, announced that a total volume of 77.0 TWh was traded in April 2015. This represents an increase of 81 percent compared to 42.5 TWh traded in April 2014.

Spot Markets

Overall trading volumes on the Spot Markets amounted to a record of 46.5 TWh in April (April 2014: 18.8 TWh) which is an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous record of 41.2 TWh set in March 2015. On the German GASPOOL and NCG Spot market areas, volumes more than doubled to 22.2 TWh compared to 8.8 TWh traded in April 2014, including a record on the NCG delivery zone with 15.2 TWh (previous record: 14.1 TWh in March 2015). The total volume on the German spot market includes a record volume of 6.0 TWh traded in quality-specific gas products. A high of 11.5 TWh was traded on the French PEG Nord and TRS spot market areas, which accounts for an increase of 91% compared to the volume of 6.0 TWh traded in April 2014 (previous record: 11.1 TWh in January 2015). The volume on the Dutch TTF spot market more than tripled to a new high of 12.5 TWh (April 2014: 4.0 TWh). The previous record was established in January 2015 with 11.0 TWh. The Belgian ZTP spot market registered a volume of 264,286 MWh, while the NBP market area reported a volume of 8,792 MWh. The total volume of spread transactions amounted to 3.1 TWh.

 

Derivatives Markets

In April, trading volumes on the PEGAS Derivatives Markets reached30.5 TWh which represents an increase of 29 percent compared to April 2014 (23.7 TWh). The volume on the German GASPOOL and NCG Futures market areas increased by 31 percent to 6.0 TWh (April 2014: 4.6 TWh). A volume of 4.2 TWh was traded in the French PEG Nord and TRS market areas (April 2014: 3.2 TWh). The Dutch TTF Futures market registered a volume of 19.9 TWh which represents an increase of 24 percent compared to April 2014 (16.0 TWh). The financial futures products for the Italian PSV market area reported a total volume of 446,100 MWh. The new ZEE Futures market launched on 17 April registered a volume of 22,713 MWh. In April, the total amount of spread transactions reached 1.1 TWh. Transactions registered for clearing via Trade Registration amounted to 4.0 TWh including 3.7 TWh registered through the new Straight-Through Processing service.
