PC-Bond Launches Two New Bond Indices

Date 02/03/2007

PC-Bond, the leading provider of Canadian fixed income benchmarks, analytics and performance measurement, today announced the launch of a new index for the Canadian fixed income marketplace - the Universe + Maple Bond Index.

The new Universe + Maple Bond Index, designed to address the growing Maple Bond issuance, provides the investment community with a performance measurement benchmark for the combined Maple Bond and traditional Universe Bond Indices. As of February 28th, 2007 the Universe + Maple Bond Index contained 1,089 issues, with a total market value of $700.2 billion, and a modified duration of 6.54 years.

The new Universe + Maple Bond Index utilizes the same rules-based published methodology as used for both the Universe and Maple Bond Indices, with the exception of the section identifying the domicile of the issuer. This new index includes C$ semiannual pay issues, issued both by domestic and international issuers, into the Canadian marketplace.

To better address the utilization of these indices in analytics, performance and benchmarking services, the new Universe + Maple Bond Index has been released with history starting on December 30, 2005 (the start date for the publication of the Maple Bond Index). For the period prior to December 30, 2005 the Total Returns for the new Universe + Maple Bond Index have been geometrically linked to those of the traditional Universe Bond Index, providing a combined historical measurement back to 1979.

PC-Bond’s numerous fixed income indices and data sets are accessible to all interested market participants who license these for use in third-party systems, derivatives, and exchange-traded products.

PC-Bond also licenses:
  • the PC-Bond Fixed Income Analytical software, which contains a sixty year history of fixed income, equity and indices data
  • a fixed income Attribution platform, which provides performance measurement tools for the Canadian fixed income community
  • FastQuote end of day pricing feeds
