Paris Stock Exchange Trading volumes edge up in April - Market capitalisation tops 949 billion euros

Trading volumes rose 2.35% in April, with daily transactions up from 2,554 billion euros in March to 2,614 billion euros. This was 26.28% higher than the average daily figure of 2.07 billion euros recorded in 1998. Trade in French equities totalled 52.28 billion euros for the full 20 trading days, with a peak of 3.58 billion euros on April 22 and a low of 1.83 billion euros on April 12. Trading volumes for the first four months of the year came to 209.38 billion euros, up 29.33% on the 161.90 billion euros recorded in the same period of 1998. Average trade in French equities also rose by 3.1% to 208,399 transactions a day compared with 202,140 in March. There were 4,167,984 trades over the month. The busiest day was April 16, with 281,470 trades, and the slowest was April 12 with 145,184. In the first four months of 1999 there were 17.6 million trades, up 14.96% on the same period of 1998 (15.31 million). Two new companies were listed on the Second Marché during the month: Sodifrance and AUSY. At April 30, market capitalisation of French equities on the Premier and Second Marchés was a record 949 billion euros, or FF6,225 billion.
