The entrance to BM&FBOVESPA was decorated to look like a branch of Banco do Brasil on the morning of July 2, due to the offering of that company’s shares on the Novo Mercado. An event was held in the BM&FBOVESPA Visitors’ Center to celebrate the occasion, and the start of trading was announced by the traditional bell ringing. This public offering of Banco do Brasil shares attracted the highest amount of capital raised in an offering so far this year with a total of BRL 8.796 billion.
Everyone at the event wore caps sporting the Banco do Brasil logo. Among those in attendance were BM&FBOVESPA’s CEO, Edemir Pinto who congratulated Banco do Brasil for this initiative and spoke about its importance to the Exchange, and the Chairman of Banco do Brasil, Aldemir Bendine who spoke about the company’s strategies, history and futures plans.
Banco do Brasil shares have been traded in the Novo Mercado segment since June 2006, and the company is part of 8 of the 15 indices available at BM&FBOVESPA.
