Highlights - April

  • There was almost a billion capital raised on NZX Markets in April, a breakdown of $116 million equity and $835 million of debt.
  • Total value traded up 17% to $2.59 billion in April.
  • Real-time Data terminals up 24% on the same period last year to 10,915. ABN Amro Craigs became a real-time data distributor taking the number of primary data distributors to 21.
  • Smartshares Funds Under management have now reached $741 million, a 41% increase on April 2007.
  • NZDX Market Capitalisation has increased 33% in the last 12 months, at $12 billion at the end of April 2008.
  • Aspiring Wealth Management Limited was accredited as an NZX Advising Firm.

Trading

  • Average daily trades were 2,355, a 5% decrease on April 2007. *
  • Total number of trades was 49,449 an 11% increase on the same period last year.
  • Total value traded in April was $2.591 billion, a 17% increase on the same period last year. Average daily value traded of $123 million.
  • Total number of trades for the NZSX was 46,655 for April, a 12% increase on the same period last year. Total value traded on the NZSX was $2.462 billion for April, a 18% increase on the same period last year.
  • Total number of trades for the NZAX was 273 for April. Total value traded on the NZAX was $1 million.
  • Total number of trades for the NZDX was 2,521 for April, a 5% increase on the same period last year. Total value traded on the NZDX was $127 million.

Capital raised

  • $951 million capital raised on NZX Markets in April with a breakdown of $116 million equity and $835 million of debt.
  • $1.76 billion capital raised year to date, exceeding the $1.6 billion raised at the same period in 2007

* -Total trade numbers were up while average daily trades were down for April 2008 (compared to April 2007) as the Easter holiday fell in April in 2007 and March in 2008. This reduced the number of trading days to 18 in April 2007 compared with 21 this year. The increase in total value traded and liquidity movements in the April 2008 NZX Operating Metrics also represents the impact of more trading days in April 2008.
