Today, NYSE Euronext celebrated International Women’s Day with bell ringings and conferences across its global markets to highlight the contributions women have made in entrepreneurial, social, economic, financial and philanthropic arenas. In celebration of International Women’s Day, trading at NYSE Euronext Paris was opened by Marie-Jo Zimmermann, representing Moselle’s department in the  French National Assembly and president of the Assembly's group on women's rights, followed by a conference on “Women on Boards”.

At NYSE Euronext locations worldwide female leaders and senior executives representing different  organizations joined the opening or closing of the markets. Marie-Jo Zimmermann visited NYSE Euronext Paris by ringing the bell, accompanied by:

  • Anne Lalou, Director of Web School Factory, Independent Member of the Board of Directors of Medica SA, Member of the Supervisory Board of Eurazeo and Foncia;
  • Sophie Reynal, Founder & Managing Director of AlliA Finance, HEC Paris alumnae's President;

The opening bell was followed by a conference on “Women on Boards” which brought together financial leaders, government officials, industry influencers, NYSE Euronext clients and executives to discuss the current legal context in France and Europe, women in government (diversity and representation) and the rising number of women directors.

NYSE Euronext is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day and to support the Copé-Zimmermann bill – legislation aimed at promoting gender equality in the boardroom and at large companies in France. An effective Board of Directors is a forum where business strategy and priorities are set after vigorous debate fuelled by diverse points of view and different ideas. Increasing the number of women directors will bring new voices, a wider range of opinion, and different approaches and solutions into the decision-making process,” said Catherine Langlais, General Counsel, Executive Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, NYSE Euronext, and  coordinator of the company’s Diversity Committee at Group level.

As the world’s largest stock market group and an employer of choice, NYSE Euronext views diversity as an imperative – essential to a company’s success. Through our Diversity Committee, we’ve adopted internal programmes and policies that encourage an open, inclusive workplace, while taking into account local and cultural differences in the markets we operate,” she added.
