NYSE Appoints Howard M. Schloss as Vice President, Public Affairs

The New York Stock Exchange board of directors on September 2 approved the appointment of Howard M. Schloss as vice president, Public Affairs. Mr. Schloss, 39, will be responsible for the Exchange's Government Relations public-affairs program. He will also, in conjunction with the NYSE Communications division, develop and implement public-relations strategies on public-policy issues affecting the NYSE. He will be based in Washington, D.C., and report to Sheila C. Bair, senior vice president, Government Relations. "The New York Stock Exchange is committed to working with Congress and the Securities and Exchange Commission for the benefit of investors. Howard's skills and experience make him extremely qualified to work with our partners to communicate the interests of investors, issuers and members," said Edward A. Kwalwasser, Exchange group executive vice president. "We are pleased to have Howard join our D.C. team." Mr. Schloss was most recently assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he supervised all aspects of the Treasury's media relations. Prior to his joining the Treasury in 1993, he served as account supervisor at Powell Tate, a Washington public-affairs firm. Prior to that, Mr. Schloss served as the communications director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He has also worked as a writer and copy editor for various publications. Mr. Schloss holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Journalism from Southern Methodist University.
