NYSE Announces Officer Promotions, Appointments

The New York Stock Exchange's board of directors today approved the promotion of four officers to executive vice president, and the appointment of six new officers. All of the individuals will continue in their respective divisions or departments.

Promoted to Executive Vice President

Noreen M. Culhane, previously senior vice president, New Listings and Client Service

Ms. Culhane, 50, is responsible for attracting companies to list on the NYSE and maintaining positive relationships with listed companies. Ms. Culhane manages four geographic regions, the Marketing and Sales Support function, the Initial Public Offering process and Structured Products. She will continue to report to Catherine R. Kinney, group executive vice president, Competitive Position. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1997, Ms. Culhane held various positions at International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) from 1977-1997.

David P. Doherty, previously senior vice president, Enforcement

Mr. Doherty, 60, is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of violations of the federal securities laws and NYSE rules and regulations. He manages a staff of approximately 100 attorneys who litigated more than 230 cases last year. Mr. Doherty will continue reporting to Edward A. Kwalwasser, group executive vice president, Regulation. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1988, Mr. Doherty was general counsel at the CIA and served in various positions at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Salvatore Pallante, previously senior vice president, Member Firm Regulation

Mr. Pallante, 54, is responsible for ensuring that member firms comply with NYSE and SEC rules and regulations. His division includes the Financial/Operations and Sales Practice Examination process; the development of NYSE rules; Regulatory Affairs including Continuing Education, Rule Interpretation and Testing Standards; and Financial and Operations Review, which includes credit regulation and capital requirements of member firms. Mr. Pallante will continue to report to Edward A. Kwalwasser, group executive vice president, Regulation. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1973, he held accounting positions with W.H. Morton & Co., Islin Jefferson Co. and Shearson Hammill & Co.

Robert T. Zito, previously senior vice president, Communications

Mr. Zito, 47, is responsible for the Exchange's brand management. He oversees Marketing Communications, Advertising, Media Relations, Community and Educational Relations, Events, Editorial Services, Broadcast Services, the NYSE's Interactive Education Center, and the Exchange's Web site, www.nyse.com. He will continue to report to Richard A. Grasso, chairman and chief executive officer. Prior to his current position, Mr. Zito held various communications positions with Sony Corp (NYSE: SNE), CN Communications International, Hill & Knowlton and The Bridgeport Post & Telegram. He also worked previously with the NYSE in the late 1980s before rejoining the Exchange as senior vice president in 1994.

Promoted to Vice President

Michael H. Cohen, previously managing director, Marketing Communications

Mr. Cohen, 38, is responsible for the Exchange's Advertising, Corporate Identity Program, Interactive Education Center and Investor Education. He will continue to report to Robert T. Zito, executive vice president, Communications. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1997, Mr. Cohen held various advertising and marketing positions with Grey Advertising, Inc.; Sony Corporation of America, Inc. (NYSE: SNE); Slater Hanft Martin, Inc.; Deutsch, Inc.; Cavalieri & Kleiser, Inc. and Saatchi & Saatchi Compton Group.

Susan E. Light, previously managing director, Enforcement/Sales Practice

Ms. Light's Enforcement unit investigates and prosecutes violations of SEC and NYSE rules and regulations, as well as sales-practice violations. Ms. Light, 43, is responsible for managing the Enforcement division's case-management system. She manages more than 30 litigators and analysts. Ms. Light will continue to report to David P. Doherty, executive vice president, Enforcement. Prior to joining the NYSE in 1988, Ms. Light was an assistant district attorney in the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Rex W. Mixon, Jr., previously managing director, Enforcement

Mr. Mixon, 56, is responsible for investigation and prosecution of SEC and NYSE rules and regulations. He manages a staff of more than 25 litigators and investigation analysts. Mr. Mixon will continue to report to David P. Doherty, executive vice president, Enforcement. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1984, he was an associate attorney at Rogers & Wells.

Angela A. Posillico, previously managing director, Regulatory and Administrative Systems

Ms. Posillico, 48, is responsible for the planning and development of the NYSE's Regulatory and Administrative Systems. These systems and applications support the Enforcement, Member Firm Regulation and Market Surveillance divisions and Exchange-wide corporate systems. Ms. Posillico will continue to report to Roger Burkhardt, senior vice president and chief technology officer. Prior to joining the Exchange in 1986, Ms. Posillico was an accounting analyst at Marathon Oil Co.

Daniel Saporito, previously managing director, Member Trading Analysis

Mr. Saporito, 53, is responsible for the direction of a systemic program of investigation into possible rule violations detected through surveillance programs, market analyses, and referrals by trading-floor officials, members, other self-regulatory organizations and the SEC. Mr. Saporito will continue reporting to Regina Mysliwiec, senior vice president, Market Surveillance. He has spent his entire career in various positions with the Exchange, beginning in 1969.

Donald van Weezel, previously managing director, Regulatory Affairs

Mr. van Weezel, 54, is responsible for managing the Credit Regulation, Rule Development and Interpretation, Testing Standards and Continuing Education functions in the Member Firm Regulation Division. He will continue reporting to Salvatore Pallante, executive vice president, Member Firm Regulation. Mr. van Weezel has spent his entire career in various positions with the Exchange, beginning in 1971.
