It is with deep regret that the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) announces the passing of its President and CEO, C. Harry Falk, who died this morning at the age of 66. The loss will be mourned by his many friends and colleagues at the Exchange and throughout the futures industry.
Mr. Falk was elected Chairman of NYBOT’s Board of Governors on October 12, 2000. Subsequently, he was named Interim President and CEO of NYBOT on April 11, 2002, and President and CEO on July 11, 2003. He guided the Exchange through one of its more turbulent periods after the September 11 terrorist attacks. A member of the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange, Inc. (CSCE) since 1970, he joined the CSCE Board of Managers in 1989 and was appointed Vice Chairman in 1990. He served as CSCE Chairman from 1991-1995, Chairman of the CSC Clearing Association from 1983 to 1991, and was elected NYBOT Vice Chairman in June 2000. Mr. Falk’s association with the CSCE began in 1958 as a clerk for Czarnikow-Rionda, where he rose to partner in the company. Upon the sale of that company, he moved to Richco Sugar in 1982, and in 1984 joined Louis Dreyfus Corporation.
Mr. Falk lived in Rockland County, New York, with his wife Joan. Their five children and twelve grandchildren are spread internationally. He often described his primary hobby as “being with his grandchildren.”
