The NYSE today welcomed the Prime Minister of Vietnam, His Excellency Nguyen Tan Dung, to ring The Opening BellSM and meet with NYSE Euronext CEO John A. Thain.
“We are honored to welcome Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to the New York Stock Exchange,” said NYSE Euronext CEO John A. Thain. “This visit advances the growing economic and business ties between our two countries and we look forward to listing Vietnamese companies on our marketplace in the near future.”
During the visit, John Thain and Tran Van Dung, CEO of the Hanoi Securities Trading Center (HASTC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen the relationship between the two Exchanges and the Vietnamese government. A group of Vietnamese business leaders invited by the HASTC also accompanied the delegation and held meetings with NYSE Euronext officials.
“I am very happy to re-visit and to see the overwhelming development of the New York Stock Exchange – the world’s financial center – and to witness the MOU signing ceremony between the NYSE and Hanoi Securities Trading Center ,” said Prime Minister Dung. “I do hope that the cooperation between the NYSE and Vietnam ’s stock exchanges will promote the development of Vietnam financial market and contribute to the fruitful economic relationship and friendship between Vietnam and the United States of America.”
“This MOU lays a concrete foundation for long-term cooperative programs between the two exchanges, through which I believe that the HASTC can learn from the knowledge and experience of the most prestigious exchange in running a modern and efficient securities market,” said HASTC CEO Tran Van Dung. “This also could bring in a chance for U.S. investors to have a deeper look at the emerging market in Vietnam , and for Vietnamese companies to approach the financial markets in the U.S.
The NYSE is home to 425 non-U.S. companies from 45 countries. These global and regional leaders have a combined total global market capitalization of over $10 trillion.
