New York Mercantile Exchange: Gold Futures Set Monthly Volume Record

Gold futures surpassed its previous monthly volume record yesterday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc., when activity for the month reached 1,780,714 contracts, surpassing the previous monthly record of 1,649,521 contracts set in March 2004.

Exchange President James E. Newsome said, "This record demonstrates the continued confidence that gold market participants place in the transparency, liquidity, and efficiency of our gold futures contracts and the 23–hour combination of open outcry and electronic trading that we provide."
