New Volume And Open Interest Records In NYBOT Coffee Options

New volume and open interest records were set Friday in the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) Coffee “C”® (symbol KO) options contract.

A record 28,625 options contracts were traded in coffee August 3, 2006, replacing the previous high of 27,646 contracts established June 1, 2004. Additionally, coffee options open interest hit a record 182,237 contracts, surpassing the previous benchmark of 176,957 contracts set June 8, 2006.

NYBOT’s coffee contract calls for delivery of washed Arabica coffee produced in nineteen Central and South American, Asian and African countries. The contract trades from 9:15 am – 12:30 pm (NY Time) and calls for roughly 250 bags of coffee (or 37,500 pounds).
