Powernext Gas set a new monthly volume record in September 2012 as 4 371 480 MWh were traded on its spot segment. It represents an increase of 5.4 % compared to the previous high of 4 148 770 MWh registered in August.
Richard Katz, Powernext’s Director of Sales and Communication, comments: “Powernext Gas Spot has become a true pool of liquidity where all the market players active on the French gas market are gathering their interests. The PEG Sud/PEG Nord spread market especially has been extremely dynamic. This product is much appreciated by market parties and accounted for 35% of overall Spot volumes in September. Powernext is the only European gas Exchange to offer locational spreads. The challenge for us is now to be innovative enough to be able to attract the same sort of liquidity on the curve.”
On 30th September, Powernext Gas counted a total of 48 members with, among others, the arrival over the summer of Iberdrola Generacion, UEM, Koch Supply and Trading, Lampiris France, and Shell Energy Europe.
