New ETF On The Spanish Stock Exchange

The Spanish stock exchange will tomorrow start trading a new ETF called FLAME ETF MONETARIO, issued by managing entity Santander Asset Managament, S.A SGIIC. The listing follows its approval by the Spanish stock market regulator, CNMV.

The Spanish stock market’s ETF segment was created on 20 July 2006 and it currently lists 22 funds, of which 16 were listed in 2007. The effective trading volume posted by this segment in December was € 359 million and the value of trading for its first full year of operations, which started in July 2006, totaled € 4.66bn.

Exchange traded funds (ETFs) are fund-share hybrid investment vehicles that combine the best of both worlds in a single stock exchange transaction: the diversification of a fund’s portfolio and the flexibility that share trading offers.

These instrument have opened up a wide range of investment opportunities for retail and institutional investors as they can gain exposure to different countries, sectors and asset classes with a single stock exchange transaction, in real time and at a lower cost than that of other investment vehicles.
