A new Cotton No. 2sm (symbol CT) daily futures volume record was set at the New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) on Monday, November 13, of 61,464 contracts. The previous record of 55,376 futures contracts was established at the world’s leading “soft” commodities exchange on May 31, 2006.
Cotton futures also hit an open interest record of 186,243 contracts on November 6, 2006, surpassing the earlier high of 185,674 contracts registered October 18, 2006.
NYBOT’s Cotton No. 2 futures contract volume has grown 27% year-to-date. The contract calls for 50,000 pounds net weight of cotton, or approximately 100 bales. Cotton trades at NYBOT from 10:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. (NY Time). NYBOT’s New York Cotton Exchange was founded in 1870.
