Nasdaq Set To Begin Decimalizing Its List Of Stocks On Monday March 12 - First Pilot To Include 15 Securities - Second Pilot Scheduled For March 26- All Nasdaq Securities To Be Fully Converted By April 9

The Nasdaq Stock Market® has announced that it was ready to begin decimalizing its list of stocks on Monday, March 12, 2001, with a first pilot of 15 securities.

The conversion by Nasdaq® to decimals is governed by the Decimals Implementation Plan For the Equities and Options Markets that was submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on July 24, 2000. Nasdaq will implement two decimal pilot programs prior to converting all equity securities fully to decimal pricing. Nasdaq’s decimalization schedule is as follows:

  • March 12, 2001: Pilot of 15 securities will begin;
  • March 26, 2001: Second pilot of 177 companies with a total of 199 associated securities to begin; and
  • April 9, 2001: Nasdaq equity securities will be fully converted to decimals.
The initial decimal pilot program will consist of 15 securities (14 Nasdaq and 1 OTC Bulletin Board®). The stocks selected for the first pilot were chosen to represent a range of stock trading activities. In this way, Nasdaq expects to gain experience trading securities that are active, low price, high price, et cetera. They will include:
  • Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (BRCD)
  • Commerce One, Inc. (CMRC)
  • Copper Mountain Networks (CMTN)
  • Cree, Inc. (CREE)
  • Extreme Networks, Inc. (EXTR)
  • Inktomi Corporation (INKT)
  • Integrated Device Technology, Inc (IDTI)
  • Micromuse, Inc. (MUSE)
  • Newport Corporation (NEWP)
  • OpenWave Systems, Inc. (OPWV)
  • Rambus, Inc. (RMBS)
  • Redback Networks, Inc. (RBAK)
  • Research In Motion, Ltd. (RIMM)
  • VerticalNet, Inc. (VERT)
The OTCBB security is:
  • Coastal Caribbean Oil & Minerals, Ltd. (OTCBB Security COCBF) (Also listed on the Boston Stock Exchange under the symbol CCO.)
