More Renowned Financial Institutions Licensed For Trading At EEX

Date 02/06/2006

The attractiveness of European Energy Exchange (EEX) as an international market has been confirmed once again with the admission of three further renowned financial institutions for trading on the EEX. JPMorgan’s Futures & Options business was admitted in late April as both a general clearing member and trading par-ticipant on the Derivatives Market. MAN Financial Ltd., London was admitted as General Clearing Member and trading participant on the derivatives Market at the end of May and Merrill Lynch Int. was licensed as trading participant for the Derivatives Market.

“We see the interest by these companies as an outstanding cachet for our trading platform – in particular against the backdrop of the rigid risk management of financial institutions“, Dr. Hans-Bernd Menzel, CEO of EEX AG, is pleased about this confidence. “Thanks to our market makers the trading participants can find a very liquid and, at the same time, also very transparent market on EEX ”, Mr. Menzel continues.

Jerome Kemp, global co-head of JPMorgan’s Futures & Options business said: "We are delighted to have joined the EEX as a clearing member and trading participant. Membership of the exchange offers our clients exciting opportunities in the European energy market and further demonstrates our leadership and continued expansion of our business in the derivatives market."

The number of trading participants as well as the open interest confirm the confidence which the financial service providers have in EEX: With a total of 146 trading partici-pants from 19 countries and an open interest which amounts to 258 TWh with a market value of EUR 14.1 billion EEX is the energy exchange in continental Europe boasting the highest growth today.
