Monthly Performance: BOVESPA’s Daily Trading Value Average Reaches USD 2.7 Billion In August.

International Investors
The net inflow of foreign investments in the Brazilian Stock Market accounted to BRL 27,779,356,574.30 (or USD 13,953,390,990.20) in 2007. This figure includes the purchases of international investors in the public offerings , which amounted to BRL 31,772,131,197.30 (or USD 16,098,954,057.20), and the net trading value at BOVESPA, which registered an outflow of BRL 3,992,774,623.00 (or USD 2,145,563,067.00), as of August 2007.

In August, international investors´ total purchase at BOVESPA was 40,522,288,510.00 (or USD 20,492,356,061.00) and total sales of BRL 41,128,181,016.00 (or USD 20,836,792,377.00), totaling a net outflow of BRL 605,892,506.00 (or USD 344,436,316.00).

The International Investor´s participation in public offerings represented 74.5% of the total value of offerings in 2007, which accounted to BRL 42,668,428,960.90 billion (or USD 21,605,103,946.10 billion).

All these figures mentioned above include the IPOs which distribution and closure notice were published up to September 3.

Trading Value
In August, BOVESPA registered BRL 5.4 billion (or USD 2.7 billion) as financial value daily average, a new historical record in the Brazilian capital market. The daily average in number of trades also reached a new record in August, by averaging 165,128 trades a day. For comparison purposes, July registered 157,419 trades as average with BRL 4.8 billion (or USD 2.6 billion) financial value traded.

In terms of the total value traded in August, BOVESPA turned over BRL 123.7 billion (or USD 62.6 billion) compared to BRL 101.2 billion (or USD 53.8 billion) in the previous month. In 2007, as of August, the total trading value has already reached BRL 718.8 billion or USD 359.6 billion, overcoming the total trading value registered in 2006 (BRL 598.9 billion or USD 275.6 billion)

The most active stocks in terms of trading value were:

  • Vale R Doce PNA (BRL 13.5 billion or USD 6.8 billion );
  • Petrobras PN (BRL 12.2 billion or USD 6.2 billion );
  • Bradesco PN (BRL 3.5 billion or USD 1.8 billion );
  • Usiminas PNA (BRL 3.5 billion or USD 1.8 billion ); and
  • Vale R Doce ON (BRL 3.3 billion or USD 1.7 billion)



Investors Groups
The monthly trading turnover was pushed again by International Investors, who led transactions with a 33.05% stake against 35.52% in July. Institutional Investors ranked second with 31.56% compared to 29.03% registered in the previous month, followed by Individuals with 22.54% (against 23.43%); Financial Institutions, 11.51% (against 9.47%); Companies, 1.19%, (against 2.07%); and the Other group with 0.14% (against 0.48%).




Home Broker Stake
The Home Broker system reached new records in August:
  • total traded value, that amounted to BRL 18.3 billion
  • total number of trades registered 1.9 million
  • the average value per trade registered BRL 9.6 million

The After Market had 52,472 trades and BRL 514,025,480.98 as financial value this month.

Market Capitalization
In August, BOVESPA´s market capitalization amounted to BRL 2.2 trillion or USD 1.1 trillion.





Novo Mercado and Levels of Corporate Governance
The 139 companies which by the end of August were listed at BOVESPA´s Special Levels of Corporate Governance represented 55.6% of BOVESPA´s total market capitalization, 66.1% of the trading value and 72.1% of the number of trades in the cash market.

In August, Consan Ltd. issued its Brazilian Depositary Receipts (BDRs) in BOVESPA, raising USD 134.8 million.





Markets
The Cash Market was responsible for 93.7% of the total value traded in August, followed by the Options (3.1%) and Forward (3.2%) markets.
Ibovespa
The Ibovespa benchmark closed August up 0.8% at 54,637 points. This number represents a rise of 22.8% in local currency terms, from January to August 2007.

Sadia S/A PN (+10.89%); TAM S/A PN (-12.45%);

Telesp PN (+10.08%); and ALL Amer Lat UNT (-11.33%); and
Telemar PN (+9.60%) Natura ON (-9.96%).




Other Indices
The following indices closed the month up: ITEL (+7.9% at 1,329 points), INDX (+1.6% at 9,235 points); IBrX-50 (+1.2% at 7,899 points); IBrX-100 (+0.9% at 17,866), and ISE (0.3% at 1,654 points).

The following indices closed the month down: ITAG (-1.8% at 8,245 points), IEE (-1.2% at 16,843), IGC (-0.6% at 6,334 points), and IVBX-2 (-0.2% at 5,396 points).

Fixed Income
In August, 8 Corporate Bonds, 6 FDICs (Receivable Investment Funds) and 2 CRIs (Real Estate Receivable Certificates) started to trade at BOVESPA Fix and SOMA Fix Markets. The trading value of BOVESPA´s fixed income markets turned over BRL 35,641,409.75 or USD 18,165,856.14 (against BRL 16,008,534.54 or USD 8,494,754.44 totaled in previous month). Out of this total, BRL 19,534,125.30 (or USD 9,956,231.04) referred to FIDCs, BRL 8,599,825.30 (or USD 4,383,193.32) to CRIs and BRL 7,507,459.15 (or USD 3,826,431.78) to Corporate Bonds.




Individual Investors
As of August 31, The Brazilian Clearing and Depository Corporation (CBLC) registered 284,005 individual investor custody accounts, against 278,305 in July.


BOVESPA Popularization Campaign
72 new investment clubs have registered with BOVESPA in August.

Since September 2002, the popularization campaign “BOVESPA Where You Are” has stimulated the creation of 1,834 investment clubs. BOVESPA had a total of 1,990 clubs registered as of August 31. According to the last available data (July/07), the investment clubs´ total assets amounted to BRL 13.1 billion, with 148,835 investors.
