MGEX Volume up 58 Percent in April

MGEX, a Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), today announced total Exchange volume in April at 146,574 contracts traded, a 58.3 percent increase from March 2013. Additionally, this is a 29.7 percent increase from April 2012. This is the seventh consecutive month of year over year volume growth and is the top volume month since August 2011. 

The Apple Juice Concentrate (AJC) contract continued to see growth throughout April. With 313 contracts traded, a 37.9 percent increase from March 2013 was observed. Of total AJC volume, 63 were futures contracts and 250 were options contracts. On April 18, the record volume day was set with 154 contracts traded. Total AJC open interest was reported at 202, 37 futures contracts and 165 options contracts. 

The Hard Red Spring Wheat (HRSW) contract accounted for 146,261 contracts traded. Of that, 145,431 were futures contracts and 830 were options contracts. HRSW open interest was reported at 39,474, 37,147 futures contracts and 2,327 options contracts.
