MCX Weekly Market Report - Lead November Contract Suffers A Setback Of 17.36% At Rs113.80 Per Kg And Zinc November Contract 14.19% At Rs88.60 Per Kg

Total turnover (single- sided) of all MCX contracts for the week November 16-22/07 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs57,150.43 crore.

MCX COMDEX at 2360.55 points improved by 1.03% on the previous close. MCX Agri- Index fell by 2.04% at 1593.77 points, MCX Energy Index at 2825.11 points gained 4.26% and MCX Metal Index at 2415.44 points shrank 5.34%..

In the bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 19,124.45 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 12,231kgs and total volume 189,809 kgs. The December gold contract was up1.72% at Rs 10,203 per 10 gms on the previous week’s close.

Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 11,460.65 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 329,205 kgs and total volume 6,031,145 kgs. Silver for December delivery added 0.26% at Rs 19,028 per kg.

In the metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 8,383.05 crore. Open interest was 20,574 tonnes and total volume 3,17,363 tonnes. Copper for November delivery lost 4.58 % at Rs 256.45 per kg.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 4,091.76 crore. Open interest was 57,195 tonnes and total volume 435,265 tonnes. The November contract lost 14.19% at Rs 88.60 per kg.

Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 808.62 crore, open interest 815 tonnes and volume 6,805 tonnes. The November contract receded by 8.95 % at Rs 1,139 per kg.

Lead contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 3,186.69 crore, OI of 10,400 tonnes and volume of 261,105 tonnes. Lead for November delivery suffered a 17.36 % decline at Rs 113.80 per kg.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 8,253.18 crore. Open interest was 1,326,900 barrels and total volume 22,016,700 barrels. The December contract moved up by 6.35 % at Rs 3801 per barrel.

Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs250.14 crore, open interest of 541,500 mmbtu and total volume of 8,006,500 mmbtu. The December contract fell by 3.49% at Rs 310.10 per mmBTU.

Some of the other major agro-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:
  • All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs91.08 crore, open interest of 1,566 tonnes and total volume of 2,016 tonnes. Mentha oil for November delivery receded 6.57% at Rs 432.40 per kg.
  • All MCX Refined Soya Oil contracts, with open interest of 41,160 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs952.15 crore and total volume of 181,350 tonnes. The December contract was up 0.08% at Rs 527.50 per 10 kg.
  • MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs.7.24 crore, open interest of 14,340 tonnes and total volume of 14,580 tonnes. The March 08 contract gained by 2.19% at Rs 509 per quintal (100 kg).
  • The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 2.75 crore, OI of 8,880 tonnes and volume of 6,420 tonnes. The March ‘08 delivery contract closed down by 0.93% at Rs 427.70 per quintal.
  • Cardamom contracts registered a turnover of Rs98.05 crore, OI of 274 tonnes and volume of 1,734 tonnes. The December contract was up by 3.15% at Rs557 per kg.
  • MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 121.10 crore, OI of 2,210 tonnes and volume of 51,540 tonnes. The December contract shaved off 3.42% at Rs 2,316 per quintal.
  • MCX Kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 11.19 crore, OI of 10,440 tonnes and volume of 17,280 tonnes. The November contract was down 2.10 % at Rs 317 per 50 kg.
  • MCX Guarseed contracts recorded turnover of Rs 2.17 crore, OI of 420 tonnes and volume of 1,330tonnes. The December contract lost 3.57% at Rs 1,620 per quintal.
