Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week August 31- September 6, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 41,145.54 crore, down 6.04% from the previous close.
MCX COMDEX at 2163.70 points was up 1.3% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed up 1.17% at 1764.07 points, MCX Energy Index at 2293.35 points was up 1.34% and MCX Metal Index at 2450.23 points was up 1.31%.
In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 8266.63 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 12,880 kgs and total volume 91,429 kgs. The October gold contract was up 3.23% at Rs 9179 per 10 gms from the previous week close.
Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 7814.8 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 411,810 kgs and total volume 4,590,765 kgs. Silver for December delivery was up 3.47% at Rs 17,294 per kg.
In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 7164.53 crore. Open interest was 11,462,000 tonnes and total volume 23,97,54,000 tonnes. Copper for November delivery was down 1.82% at Rs 297.15 per kg.
MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 5165.88 crore. Open interest was 46,250 tonnes and total volume 419,725 tonnes. The September contract was down 5.91% at Rs 119.35 per kg.
Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 2,002.25 crore, open interest 1,367,000 tonnes and volume 16,930,250 tonnes. The September contract lost 2.44% at Rs 1145.30 per kg.
Lead contracts clocked turnover of Rs 2826.25 crore, OI of 6,750 tonnes and volume of 225,690 tonnes. Lead for September delivery was shrank by 6.19% at Rs 122.8 per kg.
In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 5710.11 crore. Open interest was 1,610,600 barrels and total volume 18,660,000 barrels. The September contract was up 2.56% at Rs 3,079 per barrel.
Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 582.06 crore, open interest of 2,879,000 mmbtu and total volume of 24,793,000 mmbtu. The September contract was down 1.03% at Rs 231.2 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:- All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 146.24 crore, open interest of 1,384 tonnes and total volume of 2,712 tonnes. Mentha oil for September delivery was up 1.64% at Rs 537.60 per kg.
- All MCX Refined Soya Oil contracts, with open interest of 44,290 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 766.62 crore and total volume of 159,690 tonnes. The September contract was up 0.41% at Rs 479.15 per 10 kg.
- MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 59.5 crore, open interest of 52,440 tonnes and total volume of 92,310 tonnes. The September contract was down 0.14% at Rs 627.6 per quintal (100 kg).
- The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 10.96 crore, OI of 19,470 tonnes and volume of 16,290 tonnes. The September delivery contract closed down 1.51% at Rs 658.9 per quintal.
- Cardamom contracts registered a turnover of Rs 62.31 crore, OI of 522 tonnes and volume of 1186 tonnes. The September contract was down 0.68% at Rs 514 per kg.
- MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 48 crore, OI of 5260 tonnes and volume of 21,090 tonnes. The September contract was up 2.82% at Rs 2294 per quintal.
- MCX Kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 23.38 crore, OI of 15,150 tonnes and volume of 32,070 tonnes. The September contract gained 3.81 % at Rs 387 per 50 kg.
- MCX Guarseed contracts recorded turnover of Rs 4.57 crore, OI of 2110 tonnes and volume of 2580 tonnes. The September contract was up 2.94% at Rs 1768 per quintal.
