Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week June 22-28, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) gained half a per cent at Rs 48,996.75 crore from the previous week’s close.
MCX COMDEX at 2133.41 points was down 0.26% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed up 2.41% at 1733.02 points, MCX Energy Index at 2199.37 points was down 0.5% and MCX Metal Index at 2480.98 points was down 0.96%.
In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 9,846.62 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 15,060.1 kgs and total volume recorded was 113,382.5 kgs. The gold August contract lost 0.63% over the week to close at Rs 8666/10 gms.
Silver contracts clocked turnover of Rs 10,976.47 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 594,670 kgs and total volume was 6,327,180 kgs. Silver July closed down 4.85% at Rs 17,008 per kg.
In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 11,136.24 crore. Open interest was 15,386 tonnes and total volume 366,647 tonnes. Copper for June delivery was up 0.7% at Rs 308.5 per kg.
MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 5,322.96 crore. Open interest was 41,075 tonnes and total volume 375,380 tonnes. The June contract was down 4.95% at Rs 138.15 per kg.
In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 7,832.38 crore. Open interest was 2,043,000 barrels and total volume of 27,918,500 barrels. The July contract was up 1.28% at Rs 2839 per barrel.
Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 169.39 crore, open interest of 1,607,000 mmbtu and total volume of 5,850,500 mmbtu. The July contract was down 9.9% at Rs 275 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover -
- All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 146.3 crore, open interest of 1382.76 tonnes and total volume of 2809.8 tonnes. Mentha oil for July delivery was up 0.43% at Rs 515.6 per kg.
- All MCX Refined Soy Oil contracts, with open interest of 43,450 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 732.46 crore and total volume of 149,500 tonnes. The July contract was down 0.31% at Rs 488.25 per 10 kg.
- MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 74.33 crore, open interest of 49,620 tonnes and total volume of 113,430 tonnes. The July contract was down 0.21% at Rs 631.8 per quintal (100 kg).
- MCX chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 68.95 crore, OI of 4120 tonnes and volume of 29,670 tonnes.The July contract was up 1.76% at Rs 2313 per quintal.
