Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week August 24-30, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 43,792.35 crore, down 8.87% from the previous close.
MCX COMDEX at 2135.99 points was up 3.18% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed down 0.05% at 1743.75 points, MCX Energy Index at 2263.07 points was up 6.27% and MCX Metal Index at 2418.62 points was up 1.61%.
In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 6504.60 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 10368 kgs and total volume 73,092 kgs. The October gold contract was up 0.6% at Rs 8892 per 10 gms from the previous week close.
Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 8499.51 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 557,495 kgs and total volume 5,162,990 kgs. Silver for September delivery was up 1.11% at Rs 16,348 per kg.
In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 10,408.41 crore. Open interest was 13,596 tonnes and total volume 347,003 tonnes. Copper for November delivery was up 1.78% at Rs 302.65 per kg.
MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 4,504.84 crore. Open interest was 41,470 tonnes and total volume 351,185 tonnes. The September contract was down 3.43% at Rs 126.85 per kg.
Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 1,746.87 crore, open interest 1,767 tonnes and volume 15,315.25 tonnes. The September contract gained 0.35% at Rs 1174 per kg.
Lead contracts clocked turnover of Rs 3,395.57 crore, OI of 8,665 tonnes and volume of 256,225 tonnes. Lead for September delivery was up 1.08% at Rs 130.9 per kg.
In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 6,785.39 crore. Open interest was 1,461,200 barrels and total volume 23,050,800 barrels. The September contract was up 5.44% at Rs 3,002 per barrel.
Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 495.21 crore, open interest of 3,057,500 mmbtu and total volume of 20,775,500 mmbtu. The September contract was down 2.5% at Rs 233.60 per mmBTU.
Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:- All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 151.96 crore, open interest of 1,323 tonnes and total volume of 2,849 tonnes. Mentha oil for September delivery was down 1.82% at Rs 528.9 per kg.
- All MCX Refined Soya Oil contracts, with open interest of 44,880 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 667.53 crore and total volume of 139,960 tonnes. The September contract was down 1.38% at Rs 477.20 per 10 kg.
- MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 95.63 crore, open interest of 56,460 tonnes and total volume of 149,490 tonnes. The September contract was down 0.22% at Rs 628.5 per quintal (100 kg).
- The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 10.46 crore, OI of 22,470 tonnes and volume of 15,330 tonnes. The September delivery contract closed down 0.56% at Rs 669 per quintal.
- Cardamom contracts registered a turnover of Rs 63.58 crore, OI of 484 tonnes and volume of 1218 tonnes. The September contract gained 0.58% at Rs 517.5 per kg.
- MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 53.43 crore, OI of 4990 tonnes and volume of 22,980 tonnes. The September contract was down 4.66% at Rs 2231 per quintal.
- MCX Kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 21.05 crore, OI of 14,065 tonnes and volume of 28,610 tonnes. The September contract declined by 4.09 % at Rs 372.8 per 50 kg.
- MCX Guarseed contracts recorded turnover of Rs 16.84 crore, OI of 2340 tonnes and volume of 9520 tonnes. The September contract fell 5.53% to close at Rs 1717.5 per quintal.
