MCX Weekly Market Report - Benchmark October Gold Contract Gains 1.26% Over Week At Rs 9295/10gms, Crude Sep Up 4.87% At Rs 3,229/Bbl

Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week September 7-13, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 52,661.68, up 28% from the previous close.

MCX COMDEX at 2204.94 points was up 1.91% from the previous close. MCX Agri Index closed down 1% at 1746.43 points, MCX Energy Index at 2387.11 points was up 4.09% and MCX Metal Index at 2472.53 points was up 0.91%.

In the Bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 13733.14 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 13,098 kgs and total volume 147,815 kgs. The October gold contract was up 1.26% at Rs 9295 per 10 gms from the previous week close.

Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 10,807.60 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 489,985 kgs and total volume 6,175,190 kgs. Silver for December delivery was up 0.84% at Rs 17,439 per kg.

In the Metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 8273.32 crore. Open interest was 11,740,000 tonnes and total volume 27,88,32,000 tonnes. Copper for November delivery was up 1.70% at Rs 302.20 per kg.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 5091.17 crore. Open interest was 51,155 tonnes and total volume 439,075 tonnes. The September contract was down 1.63% at Rs 117.40 per kg.

Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 1156.77 crore, open interest 1,429,500 tonnes and volume 10,273,750 tonnes. The September contract gained 0.36% at Rs 1149.40 per kg.

Lead contracts clocked turnover of Rs 2704 crore, OI of 8175 tonnes and volume of 219,570 tonnes. Lead for September delivery gained 5.29% at Rs 129.30 per kg.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 8579.25 crore. Open interest was 2,132,600 barrels and total volume 27,333,600 barrels. The September contract was up 4.87% at Rs 3,229 per barrel.

Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 793.33 crore, open interest of 1,809,500 mmbtu and total volume of 32,681,500 mmbtu. The September contract was up 6.75% at Rs 246.80 per mmBTU.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover:
  • All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 143.42 crore, open interest of 1,763 tonnes and total volume of 2,646 tonnes. Mentha oil for September delivery was down 0.73% at Rs 533.70 per kg.
  • All MCX Refined Soya Oil contracts, with open interest of 43,510 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 588.56 crore and total volume of 123,240 tonnes. The September contract was down 0.73% at Rs 533.70 per 10 kg.
  • MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 86.13 crore, open interest of 29,430 tonnes and total volume of 136,590 tonnes. The September contract was down 0.94% at Rs 621.70 per quintal (100 kg).
  • The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 23.67 crore, OI of 18,180 tonnes and volume of 35,400 tonnes. The September delivery contract closed down 1.18% at Rs 651.10 per quintal.
  • Cardamom contracts registered a turnover of Rs 83.74 crore, OI of 451 tonnes and volume of 1601 tonnes. The September contract was up 2.43% at Rs 526.50 per kg.
  • MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 80.55 crore, OI of 6490 tonnes and volume of 35,730 tonnes. The September contract was down 4.53% at Rs 2190 per quintal.
  • MCX Kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 38.60 crore, OI of 20,245 tonnes and volume of 51,175 tonnes. The September contract gained 4.91 % at Rs 406 per 50 kg.
  • MCX Guarseed contracts recorded turnover of Rs 2.22 crore, OI of 2100 tonnes and volume of 1270 tonnes. The September contract was down 4.07% at Rs 1696 per quintal.
