MCX – COMDEX Weekly Market Report - Crude Oil November Contract Goes Up 7.05% At Rs.3447 Per BBL, Lead November Contract Looses 3.33% At 145.25 Per Kg.

Total turnover (single sided) of all MCX contracts for the week October 12 - 18, 2007 (Friday-Thursday) was Rs 64,529.81 crore.

MCX COMDEX at 2327.38 points rose by 2.99% from the on the previous close. MCX Agri- Index closed up 0.04% at 1680.05 points, MCX Energy Index at 2623.64 points gained 6.53% and MCX Metal Index at 2587.52 points 0.57%.

In the bullion segment, MCX Gold contracts registered a turnover of Rs 20004.10 crore. Open interest of all gold contracts was 14,177 kgs and total volume 20,6063 kgs. The December gold contract was up 2.37% at Rs 9817 per 10 gms on the previous week close.

Silver contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 11,909.34 crore. Open interest for all silver contracts was 4,74,405 kgs and total volume 6,505,610 kgs. Silver for December delivery fell by 0.20% at Rs 18,317 per kg.

In the metal segment, MCX Copper contracts across the board registered a turnover of Rs 8196.91 crore. Open interest was 14,881 tonnes and total volume 260,315 tonnes. Copper for November delivery was down 2.24% at Rs 309.35 per kg.

MCX Zinc contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 4743.78 crore. Open interest was 45,855 tonnes and total volume 389,145 tonnes. The October contract lost 3.10% at Rs 118.60 per kg.

Nickel contracts turnover was Rs 1822.24 crore, open interest 1,255 tonnes and volume 14,416 tonnes. The October contract went up by 1.02% at Rs 1278.20 per kg.

Lead contracts clocked turnover of Rs 5092..26 crore, OI of 20,090 tonnes and volume of 347,875 tonnes. Lead for October delivery receded 3.67% at Rs 146.90 per kg.

In the Energy segment, all MCX crude oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs 10,728.15 crore. Open interest was 2,079,700 barrels and total volume 31,925,800 barrels. The November contract rose 7.05 % at Rs 3447 per barrel.

Natural gas contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 500.03 crore, open interest of 932,500 mmbtu and total volume of 17,056,500 mmbtu. The November contract was up 4.53% at Rs 315.80 per mmBTU.

Some of the other major agri-commodities traded on MCX registered the following turnover -

  • All Mentha Oil contracts registered a turnover of Rs. 100.93 crore, open interest of 2141tonnes and total volume of 1990 tonnes. Mentha oil for November delivery fell 2.64% at Rs 500.90 per kg.
  • All MCX Refined Soya Oil contracts, with open interest of 57,330 tonnes, registered a turnover of Rs 771.90 crore and total volume of 158,720 tonnes. The November contract was up 1.48% at Rs 489.05 per 10 kg.
  • MCX Potato (Agra) contracts registered a turnover of Rs.14.60crore, open interest of 6720 tonnes and total volume of 22,980 tonnes. The March 08 contract was down 0.76% at Rs 545.90 per quintal (100 kg).
  • The Potato (Tarkeshwar) contract recorded turnover of Rs 10.73 crore, OI of 12,720 tonnes and volume of17,220 tonnes. The November delivery contract closed up 1.71% at Rs 624 per quintal.
  • Cardamom contracts registered a turnover of Rs 45.22 crore, OI of 298 tonnes and volume of 882 tonnes. The November contract was down 3.70% at Rs507.50 per kg.
  • MCX Chana contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 86.74 crore, OI of 3140 tonnes and volume of 36,340 tonnes. The October contract was up 2.77% at Rs 2414 per quintal.
  • MCX Kapaskhali contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 36.45 crore, OI of 18,850 tonnes and volume of49,420 tonnes. The October contract was up 5.38 % at Rs 397.30 per 50 kg.
  • MCX Guarseed contracts recorded turnover of Rs 3.39 crore, OI of 2220 tonnes and volume of2020 tonnes. The November contract was down 0.30% at Rs 1680 per quintal.
